cuccinelli. in new jersey, chris christie seems to be coasting to re-election in a big blue state. despite those revelations in "double down." and he's making no secret that he's at least looking at a presidential run. peggy noonan, you spent some time with governor christie this week. >> yeah, he was beginning his big seven-day bus tour of new jersey to, you know, to end on election day. i found him to be an example of the lost joy, the lost pleasure of politics, he's out there having fun, they love him, he's going to win by 20, 25, whatever, points, he's feeling triumphant, that's a rare thing to see in a republican these days. so, it was wonderful to witness. let me tell you something that i have been thinking about with regard to new jersey and virginia, new jersey is about to, we believe, it looks like, re-elect a red state figure who is pro-life and he's about to win by a lot of points as it appears from the poll. ken cuccinelli, down south in virginia, he's a pro-life guy who's expected according to the polls to go down. so, he's expected to go down in a mixed state and christie is

eyebrows about why new jersey governor chris christie is campaigning so aggressively just days before a voet he's got locked up. christie's still on the move. nbc's kelly o'donnell is on the move as well, having interviewed christie on the road. she joins us in hamilton, new jersey. a good sunday to you. what is behind this tour? >> reporter: well, we've been traveling with the governor, talking to him along the way. he says the polls could do him a disservice because voters actually have to get there on election day and cast ballots. so he says he is trying to grind it out, push from town to town to connect with voters, to make sure they actually turn out. there's also the issue of how big of a margin might he have if he is, in fact, going to win, how big a win. and i talked to him about that last night. >> i'm not planning for it. i just think it's inevitable. you know, i think people look at elections and try to discern things from them about what they mean at that moment and what they mean for the future. i think that what people are going to see is so unusual for what our party h
, the romney/ryan ticket was almost a romney/christie ticket. the new jersey governor was on mitt romney short list not once but -- >> twice. >> the reason it didn't go much farther? >> he had christie on the first short list. he crosses his name off. he's leaning towards paul ryan. >> reporter: romney's advisers pressured him to reconsider chris christie. in the end there were two obstacles. christie couldn't keep his day job and fund raise due to new jersey law and the book says he wasn't as forthcoming in the vetting process as other candidates. now, beth meyers, a long-time aide to mitt romney said to the "new york times" that chris christie complied fully in the vetting process but when you look at what "the new york times" is reporting about this book, the unanswered questions just kind of go on and on, about a defamation lawsuit against the governor from earlier in his political career as well as the names and documentation of his household employees. as well as information about his medical history. there's even more than that, chris. >> boy, oh, boy, that book probably going to sell f

, that man disappeared. nbc bay area's christie smith is live at san francisco general now with an update on this mysterious investigation. good morning, christie. >> good morning to you, marla. yeah, we're learning a little more about what happened here. that man was actually locked out on a fifth floor stairwell, an exterior stairwell. when he got back in after banging on the door, told the nursing supervisor that there may have been someone laying down or sleeping below. four days later the body of 57-year-old lynn spalding was found in that same exterior stairwell on october 8th. nearly three weeks after she disappeared from her hospital room at sf general. there were no signs of foul play. she was being treated for a bladder infection, and that man may have been the last person who saw her. ucsf police and san francisco police are trying to find him. he may have had on a ucsf name badge, possibly a resident or other worker. now here at sf general they're checking through hundreds of hospital id's, but so far no luck finding him. a spokesperson for sf general shared this morning what
of chris christie could affect the hillary clinton campaign? >> the 2000 campaign was a very effective one. i was an intern on that campaign and did a heck of a job fetching coffee and answering phones. but in all seriousness, it's a great comparison from that race to this one. she didn't go in there thinking she was a given to win the senate seat. she went in as a total novice, introduced herself to voters, got her hands dirty. something that she was accused of not doing in 2008. the reason it's really important for the clinton campaign to take that approach this time around is because you look at shaquille o'neal who hardly ever weighs into politics but he did endorsing chris christie, a republican. an overwhelming majority of black voters supported barack obama. but in my 2008 "party crashing," plugging that, 35% of black voters ages 18 to 24 actually identify as independent, thomas. so while they are obama loyalists, many of them, they're not necessarily kem contract party loyalists and president obama slipped in the double digits between 2008 and 2012 among black men in part because o
jersey governor chris christie said because the government was so slow to act, that he's not entirely satisfied with how his recovery is going for new jersey. take a listen. >> it took 92 days for the federal government to act on aid to sandy victims. that compares to ten days for hurricane katrina and 17 days for hurricane gustav. i told people it was going to add things to the back ending. here's what it caused. no federal money started to flow here until the end of may. >> sir, do you support what chris christie is saying here, that this response was too slow and congress bears some of the blame for that pace? >> absolutely. congress bears a large amount of the blame. it was absolutely disgraceful that we had to wait over three months to get the aid every other region in the country got within ten days or two weeks. this was wrong. it compounded the problems we had and we had to go through the entire winter with virtually for federal aid coming in. adds governor christie said, it was nearly may by the time the process was completed. then there was so much devastation, so much damag
